On August 19th, the National Council of Justice (CNJ) completed the mandatory registration of medium and large companies in the Electronic Judicial Domicile system, with the exception of those based in Rio Grande do Sul. In total, 1.2 million qualifying companies were registered, enrolled automatically using data from the Federal Revenue Service.

The Electronic Judicial Domicile is the free, digital system that centralises court summonses and notifications sent by Brazilian courts, making it faster for recipients to check and track these communications. Developed under the Justiça 4.0 Programme, the tool has become mandatory for public and private companies across the country.

Registered companies are now able to receive court communications electronically through a single centralised platform. Following mandatory registration, court communications will be delivered via the Electronic Domicile.

Companies must keep their registration up to date in order to avoid the risk of missing procedural deadlines and facing penalties. Anyone who fails to confirm receipt of a summons sent through the system within the legal deadline, without a valid justification, is subject to a fine of up to 5% of the value of the claim for conduct deemed to undermine the dignity of the courts.

Companies subject to mandatory registration must access the website domicilio-eletronico.pdpj.jus.br and log in through the “gov.br” option using their digital certificate (e-CNPJ). Once logged in, they can update their information on the platform and check for any court communications addressed to the company's CNPJ.

Companies that have not yet registered can check the Electronic Judicial Domicile System's Monitoring Panel to see whether their CNPJ was registered automatically.
